How do I choose the correct size generator for my house? Well, it depends. Where do you live? For what purpose are you purchasing a generator? I always ask my customers the following question. What are your electrical power goals? Do you live in a hot and humid climate? Will you risk a mold infestation if your central air conditioner isn’t able to be powered up? In that case you will need a generator which can power up that central air conditioner of yours. Maybe you live in a temperate area and have no need for air conditioning. Do you have pumps to run? How about a microwave? If your constant power needs are between 7000 watts and 12000 watts you will be best suited for a 50 amp generator. If your constant power needs are less than 7000 watts you will be best suited for a 30 amp generator.
