How to choose the right type of Generator

December 10, 2019 /Posted byJared / 17428

To ensure you purchase the best Generator for your purpose, there is more to consider than just how much electricity you require during a power outage.  Other things to consider are: ease of use, simplicity of maintenance, multiple fuel options, anticipated fuel consumption, fuel storage, permanent or portable, battery maintenance and more.

During a emergency loss of power would you be able to perform some simple actions which are comparable to wheeling out your grill and lighting it?  Then you can save thousands of dollars on costly permits and complicated installations by purchasing a Portable Generator that runs on Propane or Natural Gas.

Many people consider the use of an automatic transfer switch until they find out about the filing of Permits, the high costs of installation and monthly Permanent Generator testing.  Portable Generators do not require monthly testing and use a manual transfer switch. Installation of a manual transfer switch is less costly and more reliable than an automatic transfer switch.  Often, at the most inconvenient times the computer on the automatic transfer switch has communication problems with the Generator and you have to go outside and manually turn it on.  The aggravation of having to manually turn on your permanent generator after all the time and money invested in an automatic transfer switch is unnerving.

In addition, during an extended power outage or in areas where maintenance technicians for permanent Generators are not readily available, having a Portable Generator which allows you easily maintain your Generator independently can be extremely important.  The ability to change the oil without tools in a short time for less than $10 makes portable Generators very popular.

Consider multiple fuel options.  Is there a supply of Natural Gas to the building?  Do you already own a LP grill?  Why purchase a Generator that only runs on a single fuel such as Gasoline?  We produce a line of Generators that have the ability to be powered by Natural Gas or Propane and some can run on Gasoline as well!  This gives you peace of mind knowing that you have fuel flexibility. Did you know that Gasoline with Ethanol has a shelf life of 90 days?  Propane has a shelf life of 12 years! If you already have a Natural Gas meter on your building then you can avoid fuel storage all together!

Did you forget your Battery Charger? Believe it or not, they are rarely included in the box and might be most important. You don’t want your battery failing you when you need to start your Generator. Remember to purchase a Battery Charger and keep it plugged in when your Generator is not in use.
